We get asked questions all the time, so to help you we’ve compiled a list of the typical ones below to set you on your way. Every floor is unique and specific to our clients requirements so the answers may vary slightly to your exact needs.
How long does the process take? | The whole process takes approximately three days. Day 1 is usually comprised of site set up such as shuttering around thresholds, installing of the reinforcing meshing and expanding foam around perimeter to allow for movement of the new flooring, day 2 is the pour of the concrete and initial polish, day 3 is doing crack inducement cut with a saw and covering the flooring with the protective two layer breathable membrane. Then we allow the concrete to cure for approximately 28 days and the come back for one further day to do the final polish and seal of your new floor. |
When can I start to use the floor? | The floor can be walked/worked on again after day 3 of the process once the protective membrane has been installed, although it is still advised to be careful not to drop any heavy objects on the flooring during the curing period. |
What is the minimum depth of concrete to the finished floor? | The advised minimum depth of concrete should be at least 100mm as this prevents cracking, although less depth is possible it is not advisable as the concrete becomes more prone to cracking. |
Can I have under floor heating installed? | Absolutely! Most floors that we install are installed on top of water plastic under floor heating systems as concrete is a great conductor of heat. |
Can I have an existing concrete slab polished? | Yes, although its does depend on what state the existing floor slab is in, and in many cases will need repair before and polishing or grinding can occur. |
Can I have aggregate in the concrete? | Yes, we usually use light or dark aggregates or stones such as basalt and white limestone. |
What areas do you cover? | Most of our project are in Greater London but we are willing to travel further for larger projects. |
Do you work on small projects? | We can but it’s important to highlight that it may not be cost effective. Contact us to discuss further. |
How do we get a quotation from you? | If you have drawings that we are able to get measurements from we are able to provide a quotation. Should we need to conduct a site visit we are more than happy to send one of our representatives to you to discuss in more detail your needs and requirements. |
What colours are available? | Take a look at our colours and finishes on our main Polished Concrete page, however these are just representations, due to the bespoke nature of polished concrete floors these can vary from project to project. |
Do all floors look shiny? | We have a range of sealers available from matt, satin and gloss. |
